Animal Control Officer

The Animal Control/ Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing the rules pertaining to animals in the City. Also he is tasked with reporting code violations and notifying home owners of any violations they may have. Please be aware that his job can be stressful and and you can make it better or worse depending upon the situation.

Yes, he has the legal authority to enter upon your unfenced property in the performance of his duties and the City Code states that: 2-208. RIGHT OF ENTRY. The impounding officer shall have the right of entry upon any private unenclosed lots or lands for the purpose of collecting any animal whose presence thereupon is a violation of this article. It shall be unlawful for any person to interfere with the impounding officer in exercise of this right. (Ord. 3258, Sec. 1)

Yes, your pet must be tagged with a current city tag and to get one you must present proof of current rabies vaccination. The tag should be on the pet if at all possible. We keep a current list of owners who have purchased tags and the Animal Control Officer keeps a copy with him.

Please try and work closely with the city in this respect. Our goal is to provide a safe, secure environment for the publics children and their pets. If a pet is running at large there is a very real possibility they could get struck by a vehicle, injured or killed. No one wants that.
